ABSTRACT The objective of this research focused on evaluating the weight gain, consumption and digestibility of the nutritional components present in the diet offered to bovine animals of the Chino Santandereano breed in stables, fed with different levels of protein-energy supplementation, as a strategy to identify with truth the productive potential stipulated by genetics. 16 whole males with an approximate age and initial weight of 30 months and 370 kg were used in completely random outlines with 4 treatments and 4 repetitions per treatment, being: NS, non-supplemented animals; LOW, animals supplemented with an amount relative to 0.5% of the live weight; MEDIUM, supplemented animals with quantity relative to 1.0% of live weight; and HIGH, supplemented animals with a quantity relative to 1.5% of the live weight. The supplemented diet consisted of soybeans (35.34%), palm kernel cake (10.00%), ground corn (27.33%) and rice bran (27.33%). In addition, the animals received hay from Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle) Schweick grass, offered ad libitum as well as water and mineralized salt. The investigation lasted 100 days divided into 4 periods of 25 days; intake of grass and supplement was determined on a daily basis by difference between the offered and the residues. To determine digestibility, a digestive test was carried out in the last 3 days of each period in order to quantify the excretion of dry matter by total collection. As the degree of supplementation increased, higher DMSI dry matter of supplement intake (0.00, 1.61, 3.14, 4.53 kg), CPI crude protein intake (0.34, 0.72, 1.02, 1.29 kg) and EEI ether extract intake were observed. (0.12, 0.25, 0.35, 0.44 kg) (P<0.01). Higher performance, intake and digestibility were observed in supplemented animals when compared to non-supplemented animals (P<0.05) specifically for the variables TDMI total dry matter intake (6.93, 9.68 kg), OMI organic matter intake (6.48, 9.11 kg), NFCI non-fibrous carbohydrates intake (0.49, 1.48 kg); TDNI total digestible nutrients intake (4.36, 6.96 kg), ME metabolizable energy (22.58, 33.41 Mcal /day), DE digestible energy (26.10, 38.44 Mcal /day), DMD dry matter digestibility (64.20, 71.92%), OMD organic matter digestibility (65.41, 72.94%), CPD crude protein digestibility (55.15, 73.79%), EED ether extract digestibility (49.82, 76.55%), NFCD non-fibrous carbohydrates digestibility (67.25, 87.88%), ADG average daily gain (-169.2, 1069.62 gr /day); WG weight gain (-17.09, 108.03 kg); FC feed conversion (73.29, 9.69 kg) and FE feed efficiency: 2.0, 11.0%. A positive correlation (P<0.05) was observed between the variables DMSI, CPI, NFCI, EEI, CPD, EED and NFCD with ADG, meanwhile, DMI, DMD, neutral detergent fiber intake NDFI and neutral detergent fiber digestibility NDFD were negatively related (P<0.05) with ADG. Supplementation improves the variables of TDMI, CPI, EEI, NFCI, CPD, EED, NFCD and productive performance of Chino Santandereano cattle in stable, meanwhile, there is no influence of the degree of supplementation LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH on ADG, NDFI and NDFD.es_CO
