Weaning is today a common practice that allows increasing the productive performance
of pig farms. Early weaning is considered one of the most critical periods in pig
production, as piglets are often severely affected by pathogen overgrowth. Therefore,
producers face the challenge of overcoming this situation in a context of increasing
restrictions on the use of antibiotics. In this sense, great efforts are currently being made
to find strategies that help piglets to overcome the challenges of weaning. One of these
strategies is the use of probiotics, due to the benefits they provide in growth, intestinal
colonization, digestibility, use of nutrients and strengthening of the waterproof system of
animals.
Taking into account the above, this article focused on conducting a review of
scientific literature, which results allow us to verify the positive effects of probiotic
supplementation to reduce the severity and incidence of post-weaning diarrhea (PWD),
likewise, establish that the most used probiotics are: Lactobacillus plantarum,
Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Enterococcus faecium, which have become alternative
tools to avoid problems at destination, such as dysbiosis. | spa |
