Protocolo Welfare Quality® y la evaluación de bienestar animal para terneras lactantes.

Abstract

Resumen El presente artículo muestra los indicadores de bienestar animal que establece el protocolo Welfare Quality® como aspectos que permiten garantizar el desempeño adecuado de las terneras lactantes; para ello se define el bienestar animal, se describe los indicadores de evaluación de bienestar animal en terneras y el protocolo Welfare Quality®. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica, analizando fuentes documentales de bienestar animal y su relación directa en la cría de terneras y que proporcionan el soporte teórico de este trabajo; los resultados permitieron establecer la importancia del protocolo Welfare Quality® como guía para las buenas prácticas en la cría hembras lactantes en la raza bovina, evidenciando que el grado de bienestar en estaetapa de vida es de suma importancia. Welfare Quality® es notable en un hato, ya permite un seguimiento optimo en el cuidado animal desde el nacimiento hasta el destete, las mejoras de prácticas de alimentación, alojamiento, relación vaca ternera e interacción con otros animales, establece el bienestar animal como un producto de la ética, la conciencia y la responsabilidad de los seres humanos. Abstract This article shows the animal welfare indicators established by the Welfare Quality® protocol as aspects that allow guaranteeing the adequate performance of lactating calves; for this purpose, animal welfare is defined, the indicators for the evaluation of animal welfare in calves and the Welfare Quality® protocol are described. A bibliographic review was carried out, analyzing documentary sources on animal welfare and its direct relation to calf raising, which provide the theoretical support for this work; the results allowed establishing the importance of the Welfare Quality® protocol as a guide for good practices in the raising of lactating females in the bovine breed, evidencing that the degree of welfare in this stage of life is of utmost importance. Welfare Quality® is remarkable in a herd, since it allows an optimal follow-up in animal care from birth to weaning, improvements in feeding practices, housing, cow-calf relationship and interaction with other animals, establishing animal welfare as a product of ethics, conscience and responsibility of human beings.
