Almacenamiento y flujo de carbono en tres ecosistemas de la región del Sumapaz como estrategia de sensibilización sobre el cambio climático

Este trabajo midió el almacenamiento y flujo de carbono en un ecosistema agrícola, uno ganadero y uno natural en la región del Sumapaz como una estrategia para sensibilizar sobre el cambio climático. Se midió el almacenamiento de carbono abajo del suelo a través de los métodos Walkley Black y espectrofotometría. La biomasa aérea forestal se calculó a través de ecuaciones alométricas a partir de la altura y el diámetro a la altura del pecho de los árboles. En cada ecosistema se registró el CO2 atmosférico en tres alturas. Por último, se le realizaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas a seis investigadores que han medido el carbono en ecosistemas del Sumapaz para robustecer las conclusiones. Se encontró que el porcentaje de carbono orgánico en el suelo promedio es estadísticamente igual para los tres ecosistemas, el promedió de flujo de CO2 es estadísticamente el mismo para los ecosistemas; el sistema natura es mayor depósito de carbono que los otros dos sistemas. Las entrevistas semi-estructuradas demostraron que los seis investigadores que midieron el almacenamiento o el flujo del carbono aumentaron su comprensión sobre el cambio climático y la responsabilidad del ser humano en el mismo. La principal conclusión es que la estimación del almacenamiento y flujo del carbono en los tres ecosistemas del Sumapaz es una estrategia eficaz para sensibilizar sobre el cambio climático, pues permite comprender de qué se trata esa problemática ambiental, cuáles son sus causas, y cuál es el papel del ser humano en esas causas. This work measured the carbon storage and flow in an agricultural ecosystem, a livestock ecosystem and a natural ecosystem in the Sumapaz region as a strategy to raise awareness about climate change. Below ground carbon storage was measured using Walkley Black and spectrophotometry method. The aerial forest biomass was calculated through allometric equations from the height and diameter at chest height of the trees. In each ecosystem atmospheric CO2 was recorded at three heights. Finally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six researchers who have measured carbon in Sumapaz ecosystems to strengthen the conclusions. It was found that the percentage of organic carbon in the average soil is statistically the same for the three ecosystems, the average CO2 flux is statistically the same for the ecosystems; the natural system is a larger carbon deposit than the other two systems. The semi-structured interviews showed that the six researchers who measured carbon storage or flux increased their understanding of climate change and human as main responsibility. The main conclusion is that the estimation of carbon storage and flux in the three Sumapaz ecosystems is an effective strategy to raise awareness about climate change, since it allows us to understand what this environmental problem is about, what its causes are, and the role humans play in those causes
