Los peces de agua dulce tienen características alimenticias y parámetros ambientales basados según la etapa en la que se encuentren, en el caso de los alevines es necesario que el estanque no cuente con ningún tipo de corriente en el agua, además el pH y la temperatura deben ser las óptimas y una alimentación especializada basada en alimento vivo, para lograr eso es importante contar con la tecnología adecuada para mantener los parámetros del agua ideales para el alevín, por otra parte el alimento vivo suministrado debe estar acorde al tamaño de la boca del alevín, teniendo en cuenta que hay disponibilidad de alimento vivo con varios tamaños de partícula. La cuenca del Amazonas provee a las distintas especies gran variedad de hábitats con condiciones únicas para cada uno de ellos, lo que permite que exista gran biodiversidad de especies, lo que las convierte en un producto económico dado el atractivo fenotípico. De otro lado, los índices de mortalidad observados de los alevines son altos, por lo que se hace necesario realizar estudios sobre los hábitats y parámetros ambientales en relación con la crianza artificial de muchas especies de peces que son considerados ornamentales de la cuenca del Amazonas que son extraídas para su comercialización.
