Abordaje global del efecto de las propiedades biológicas del propóleo con enfoque en la producción animal

El propóleo es un producto natural que ha sido utilizado para prácticas terapéuticas y nutricionales desde la ancestralidad, sin embargo, posee una composición compleja y variable según el contexto geográfico. Este artículo recopila las informaciones más actuales que se han generado a nivel mundial sobre los beneficios del propóleo en los sistemas de producción animal, como alternativa alimenticia sostenible con potencial para mejorar los aspectos reproductivos, salud, nutrición y calidad en canal, según lo citado en la literatura científica. Se destaca el uso del propóleo y sus propiedades biológicas, soluciones y técnicas aplicadas con efectos beneficiosos a especies de interés zootécnico, y algunos desafíos y contraindicaciones sobre el control de calidad del propóleo por su gran diversidad, diferentes tipos y por las condiciones operativas involucradas. En vista del creciente interés en el uso de sustancias bioactivas de fuentes naturales para promover la sanidad y bienestar animal, reducir el riesgo de desarrollar enfermedades y evitar antibióticos utilizados como aditivos alimenticios, esta revisión promueve diversa información para el impulso, progreso y sostenibilidad de la industria pecuaria. Propolis is a natural product that has been used for therapeutic and nutritional practices since ancient times, however, it has a complex and variable composition depending on the geographical context. This article compiles the most current information that has been generated worldwide on the benefits of propolis in animal production systems, as a sustainable food alternative with potential to improve reproductive aspects, health, nutrition and carcass quality, as cited in the scientific literature. The use of propolis and its biological properties, solutions and techniques applied with beneficial effects to species of zootechnical interest, and some challenges and contraindications on the quality control of propolis due to its great diversity, different types and the operating conditions involved are highlighted. In view of the growing interest in the use of bioactive substances from natural sources to promote animal health and welfare, reduce the risk of developing diseases and avoid antibiotics used as feed additives, this review promotes diverse information for the promotion, progress and sustainability of the livestock industry.
