dc.description.abstract | Cryptosporidium spp es un protista apicomplejo que, aunque no ha generado una forma de infeccion que atraviese las fronteras del mundo, en paises como Estados
Unidos y el Reino Unido se han presentado grandes brotes de este. Su
descubrimiento fue en 1907 por el medico patcloqo y parasitoloqo Ernest Edward
Tyzzer, el cual sequn sus observaciones iniciales descubrio que las glimdulas
gastricas de una variedad de ratones con frecuencia contenfa un parasite distinto
que el llamo Cryptosporidium Muris, asl mismo, en 1912 identifico una nueva
especie aislada de los intestinos de los ratones la cual nombro como
Cryptosporidium parvum, por otro lado, en los aries 80 se evidencio este ultimo en
pacientes con el sistema inmune comprometido y se deflnio su infeccion como
enfermedad; la presencia de este parasite se ha registrado en mas de 50 palses y
en mas de 170 especies animales siendo mas frecuente en lugares con problemas
de infraestructura para el tratamiento de agua potable, en aguas de uso
recreacional como rlos, lagos 0 piscinas 0 al existir un estrecho contacto con
animales. En Colombia, la presencia del parasite se ha encontrado en
departamentos como Arauca 46.8%, Santander 42% y Cundinamarca 7%, sin
embargo, tam bien pod ria estar presente en zonas vulnerables por su extrema
pobreza como el Pacifico, La Guajira y La Amazonia, en los cuales historicarnente
la inversion en infraestructura para el tratamiento del agua ha sido muy baja. Por
esta razon, el tratamiento recomendado es un proceso de filtracion avanzado como
la ultrafiltraclon (UF) la cual es una tecnologfa robusta y compacta que logra una
reduccion del parasite en un 91 %.
