Abstract
ABSTRACT: The internship for the qualification of Environmental Engineer consisted in the evaluation of different alternatives of structures for the production of compost from organic solid waste coming from the kitchen area of the San Rafael Hospital. To achieve this objective, the sampling and characterization of solid waste that goes to final disposal was carried out to establish its subsequent treatment in composting. A follow-up and control was carried out in the weighing of the waste / day, determining the month of March as the largest generator of organic waste in the area of food preparation with a value of 909 kg. The need to carry out this follow-up is due to the fact that the health entity did not keep a record and strict control of the waste generated. Once the diagnosis of the generation of solid organic waste was made, the composter design alternatives were considered, for which the place of implementation and the available materials provided by the health institution were defined, establishing two systems of composting with passive aeration. or natural for the use of organic kitchen waste, one of them based on wooden pallets and one compost per pile. Subsequently, it considers the economic valuation of the alternatives formulated, establishing the composting by pallets as an economic structure for the treatment of 800 kg of biodegradable waste and a value of $ 340,998, however, the structure per battery allows the use of 10,000 kg of waste for composting presenting a value of $ 3,974,318. Through the implementation of this study, the San Rafael Hospital managed to reduce its cleaning rate by 25% to 35 in addition to the reduction achieved with the use of recyclable waste and for each kg of separated organic waste, 0 can be obtained, 4 kg of compost, useful for green areas or to market it from domestic demand for gardening (Sepulveda & Alvarado, 2013), it is also important to highlight this type of projects as a contribution to the strategy Green and healthy hospitals which makes San Rafael hospital in Fusagasugá being an example for the other health centers of the department in the use of this type of waste as a process aimed at solving, mitigating and / or preventing environmental problems by reducing their final disposal in landfills by means of composting. The following license files are associated with this item:
