Abstract: This review focuses on understanding the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) in various industrial applications to reduce its concentration in the atmosphere as a precursor to the greenhouse effect, a phenomenon related to climate change. Bearing in mind that CO2 emissions have increased rapidly since the industrial revolution causing a continuous rise in the atmosphere, on the contrary, the use of supercritical fluids as a technique for extracting vegetable oils for the production of biofuel, plastics, alternative energy, among others; for the substitution of organic solvents in order to obtain a higher concentration, degree of purity and yield of the extract. The development of this writing, includes three chapters; the first addresses the potential of CO2 as a supercritical fluid according to the advantages of its physicochemical properties over other solvents; the second seeks to interfere in the development of scCO2 as an input for sustainable production, and the third chapter infers on the role of scCO2 in Colombian industry leading to the conservation of ecosystem services aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in the territory. A compilation of the data extracted from scientific articles and documents found in the Redalyc, Dialnet, Scielo, ScienceResearch, Scopus, Cern Document Server and ScienceDirect databases is presented.spa
