ABSTRACT: The Gulupa, Passiflora edulis Sims, is among the fruit crops of great importance in Colombia due to the international market potential. One of the diseases with more economic relevance is the disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum. A new alternative in the area of Integrated Management of Pests and Diseases, is the use of essential oils, plant extracts and secondary metabolites, to control the fungus. These products are environmentally friendly and have proven to be efficient in disease control. In turn, they present a low cost which contributes to mitigate the needs of the farmers. The objective of this research was to evaluate the biological activity of two plant extracts, obtained from inflorescences of Piper arthante and leaves of Piper eriopodon, for the control of Fusarium oxysporum in Gulupa (Passiflora edulis Sims.) seedlings. From each extract three preventive and curative doses were evaluated, based on the minimum inhibitory concentration determined by the chemistry group of the National University of Colombia (30 mg / ml Piper eriopodon and 3.7 mg / ml Piper arthante). The results show that the extracts application do not have a curative effect on the disease. However, some treatments showed preventive effects. The highest preventative control efficacy was obtained with Piper arthante extract at a dose of 3.7 mg / ml, showing a significant difference respect to the remaining two treatments and the control. These results indicate that Piper arthante plant extract could be an alternative to prevent disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum.en_EN
