| dc.description.abstract | RESUMEN: Las PYMES, conjuntamente con las microempresas, representan al menos el 90 por ciento del parque empresarial nacional y generan el 73 por ciento del empleo y el 53 por ciento de la producción bruta de los sectores industrial, comercial y de servicios. La ausencia de estadísticas es una de las mayores limitaciones que enfrenta la MIPYME en Colombia, pues no se dispone de información real y actualizada que sirva como soporte para la formulación de políticas y programas que fomenten el desarrollo de este estrato. A nivel nacional de acuerdo con el Censo Multisectorial de 2005, 49.9% de las microempresas se dedican a actividades del sector comercio, siendo la principal actividad el comercio al por menor (47.3%). El sector servicios agrupa el 39.1% de las microempresas, mientras que la industria tiene una participación de 11%). Entre las características más relevantes de las Microempresas, se destacan: sus altos niveles de informalidad, sus bajos niveles de asociatividad, la estrechez de los mercados a los que dirigen sus productos, el bajo nivel tecnológico y de formación de sus recursos humanos, la falta de infraestructura adecuada y el limitado acceso al sector financiero.
