In this research work in the last months of the year 2019 and the current months of 2020, through the practice developed in the secretary of economic and social development in Sutatausa, information about the problems presented by the municipality was investigated. The characterization of the agricultural production systems of the Municipality of Sutatausa was carried out, information was inquired about the problems presented by the municipality, since the town did not have a specific characterization of the productive units. In the absence of such characterization, the main objective was to characterize the agricultural production systems implemented by the producers of Sutatausa.Within the theoretical framework, the characteristics of the Municipality are described in its historical, geographical, social, cultural and economic aspects. A brief definition of characterization is also made. In the methodology, the document called “80 tools for participatory development of Geilfus ” was used as reference, by which we worked with direct observation, key informant and group dynamics, the most successful tool was the key informant, where it was found out with natural persons from each village, such as the presidents of the community action boards, who know their inhabitants thoroughly, investigating the type of production system they implement, and finally, with the information collected, the work was carried out. In the problem, the lack of water availability in the municipality was found despite the fact that there are few farms that have their own water sources, most of them only have the aqueduct in which the supply is quite limited, and they even prohibit its use. In the agricultural sector, for this reason, some of the producers transport water to their farms through tanks. Another option is the creation of rainwater collection wells and waste water from domestic activities; these with availability for irrigation of crops and pastures on farms. The productive units present in the municipality about 90% are peasant and medium producers, who receive technical assistance from the Ministry of Economic and Social Development of the Municipality directly on their farms, some of the producers do not have the machinery to carry out basic activities and therefore go to the Umata, or make exchanges with other producers when possible. For the majority of producers, the agricultural activity does not generate the total income for sustenance, for this reason they carry out tasks in mining, floriculture, construction and various trades. The results show the state in which the different systems are implemented in the municipality, the type of productive unit, size and the way in which these processes are carried out, whether they are small self-consumption productions or medium-sized ones that generate employment apart from the family labor. It is expected in the future based on characterization, that projects and programs will be developed to improve the rural sector conditions of the municipality and the region.es_CO
