Abstract
ABSTRAC: This research will allow to recognize the issues with the use of pesticides among farm workers located in the Sumapaz region in Colombia; it will provide knowledge about the practices carried out by population that is being exposed to pesticides during their work, as well as threats, security, and well-being risks of farm workers in the area under study. The Sumapaz region produces a variety to food that supplies the region and the main food distribution center in Bogotá, and the farm workers use a large amount of pesticides, which was evidenced during the different visits to different farms and villages. The great variety and quantity of pesticides used by farm workers are blended including different active principles without considering their compatibility; additionally pesticides from different brands but the same composition, the type os pest that controls is not determined. The manipulation of the pesticides during the preparation of the mixtures and their posterior application is done by han, without gloves, mask eye protection or waterproof coat. Additionally, the packaging used by the pesticides are disposed across the worker´s home, the farm, and the surroundings. The toxic potential is not completely clear for farm workers, some of them recognize only the red bar as dangerous, indicating hassles during the time of application of the pesticide, and the storage of the products is done sharing the space with other elements and foodstuff. This study will help to obtain an overview of the exposure to different groups of pesticides in the selected study zones and will serve as a basis to desing and implement strategies of intervention that contribute to generate eco-friendly relationships with the environment, favor sustainability, encourage safe good pratices and healthy lifestyles.Línea gratuita: 018000180414 | e-mail: formacion.biblioteca@ucundinamarca.edu.co
